Monidipa

A songbird from Bengal, where the Padma and the Hooghly embrace our stories, and the winds hum the melodies of our heritage. As you enter my world, you will discover the tale of a professional singer and devoted music teacher who believes in the magic of music as a universal language.

About Me

Music isn’t just notes and lyrics to me. They are the language of my soul, stories of my ancestors, and the dreams of my Bengal. Between Tagore to the deep, resonating tunes of Classical music, my palate is a broad spectrum. My voice isn’t just mine; it is a tribute to the countless unsung melodies flowing through the veins of Amar Shonar Bangla; weaving stories of hope, love, and togetherness.

My journey as an artist has been enriched by my background in Philosophy. I have learned to appreciate the nuances of art and music in ways that transcend the surface, infusing depth into my performance and interpretation of music. Life’s journey has taken me far and wide, often alongside my beloved Marine Captain husband, Sabyasachi. Together, we’ve explored the corners of our planet, leaving footprints across many cultures. Our joy is complete with the presence of our little one, Saptarishi, who is off to school, adding a new layer of rhythm to our lives. Today, I call Calcutta’s cultural cousin, Chennai, my home. Nestled down South, I continue to refine my musical craft and extend my knowledge to students through my journey as a music teacher.

My Music

I take immense pleasure in delivering performances that are deep and sincere in their musical expression. Calcutta, my city of birth, is also my muse and a constant source of inspiration. It’s a city that effortlessly fuses tradition and modernity, just like the music I love to create. And through my music, I wish to take you on this very journey. My aspiration to share the essence of Bengali and Hindustani music extends beyond borders. I am a trained singer with 22 years of professional experience and a music teacher at heart. My students pan the breadth of India, whose diversity I am proud of.

I’ve been blessed to be mentored by the maestro himself, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. The blessings were further illuminated by the guiding lights of legends like Haimanti Shukla and Nirmala Mishra. It’s not every day that one gets to be enriched by the very people who created the Indian musical firmament.

Music School

Whether you’re here to explore my performances, learn music, or seek guidance in your musical journey, or simply be drawn by the shared love for melody, I invite you to set sail in my world. How about we create harmonies that resonate far and wide, touching souls in their true symphony? I look forward to collaborating with Bengali Cultural Societies across India and worldwide, weaving together notes & experiences for diverse audiences. Over the years, I have had the honour of performing for audiences far and wide, and generally painting the air around me with music. I count this as mong my greatest privileges.

Thank you for stopping by. Please stay tuned for the magic that unfolds. If it takes me a little while to respond, please do not mind. I might be lost in one of Rabindranath Thakur’s harmonies. Or perhaps one of Burman’s riots in the ear.

Melody from the Ganges. In every note.

While music is my primary passion, I am also a sum of the parts. When my headphones are away, my love for music is rivaled by wanderlust. Between the alleys of Sydney to the grasslands of the Masai Mara and the Himalayas, to my para in Dum Dum, every trip of mine is a keepsake. My sessions of ‘adda’ – a quintessential Bengali pastime of spirited discussions recharge me, and of course, good food helps!
